New Orleans began destroying houses at Gordon Plaza on the site of a planned solar farm.
The area had been an affordable housing community that was built on the site of a former landfill. The EPA declared the area a Superfund site after toxic chemicals were found in the soil.
The city bought out the homeowners who had remained in the neighborhood. New Orleans began the process of demolishing homes to make way for a solar farm, that they hope will help the city reach its emissions goals.
