When Angela Chatelaine first stepped into an InclusivCare office, she immediately felt welcomed.

Chatelaine, who was diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma tumor in her brain in 2023, said she was taken care of every step of the process during the visit — from the helpfulness of the front desk workers to the staff members checking her blood pressure, making sure she was okay.

Chatelaine visits InclusivCare clinics to not only get her thyroid issues stemming from her tumor treated, but it’s also where she gets her dental work done. And since that first visit, it’s been her go-to for her needs.

“My sister, she went [to InclusivCare] first, and then I started going,” she said. “And then I haven’t stopped going. I just love going there.”

Chatelaine is one of many in the Greater New Orleans area that has benefitted from InclusivCare’s services in the past 20 years, a milestone the health care organization will celebrate at its anniversary gala on Dec. 6 at Royal Palms. The organization’s goal is to provide quality health care to all, regardless of their income or insurance status.

At first, she was unsure about visiting the clinic, especially since she was traveling farther than she would like.

“I was kind of leery about going across the river because I’m not familiar with going over there,” she said, not knowing what to expect.

Dr. Kimberly Rayford

But after her visit and meeting her doctor Kimberly Rayford, the clinic’s Chief Dental Officer, she will “never go see another dentist again.”

The Kenner resident added that she would even go all the way to InclusivCare’s Marrero clinic just to get an appointment with her.

“I travel about 40 minutes, depending on traffic, just to go over there to see her because she’s great,” Chatelaine said.

Marshall Wayne Smith

The quality of care at InclusivCare is also what Marshall Wayne Smith loves about it. Smith is the board chair of InclusivCare, and tends to his medical needs at the clinic as a part of the board requirement that 51% of members must be patients there, he said.

Smith, who goes to InclusivCare for primary care, dental care and foot care, has diabetes and gets his treatment and medication through the clinic.

“You feel like you’re being respected, not like you go to some hospital and get a procedure and that’s it,” he said.

That’s how he originally felt when he was being treated for his diabetes previously, Smith said. But with the doctors at InclusivCare, he feels as though they care about investigating the causes, and putting a plan together on how to get his A1C levels, or average blood sugar levels. down.

And since he’d been getting treated at InclusivCare, his A1C levels have decreased through that plan of exercise and keeping an eye on what he eats.

But while the quality of health care has been great for Smith, the work he’s seen as the clinic’s board chair has been “gratifying,” and he looks forward to greeting and meeting those who have supported the clinic at the upcoming gala.

He added that when it comes to the future of what InclusivCare can do, he hopes that “the clinic can grow and we expand and do other things for the community.”

“Those are the things that I’m looking forward to, not just being stagnant, but to keep on moving, keep on growing,” he said.
