When Amy Stelly was growing up, she celebrated the holidays with her whole extended family. Her Aunt Carol hosted Thanksgiving at their Gentilly home. Her immediate family, who lived in Treme, would host Christmas. And her Aunt Earline hosted New Year’s festivities at her St. Roch home. 

But Katrina changed that. Though Amy’s family home was spared, the homes of both Aunt Carol and Aunt Earline were not. And because of that, both eventually moved out of New Orleans. For Amy, the storm marked a turning point in their family celebrations.
