Donald Trump’s Nov. 5 election to a second presidential term sent ripples of concern through vulnerable populations in New Orleans, people who feared what might happen if Trump’s aggressive campaign rhetoric becomes federal policy. 

On the campaign trail against Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump promised to enact a mass deportation program, cut federal funding for schools that teach students about race or sexuality, ban transgender people from participating in sports that match their gender identity and decrease federal investment for electric vehicles.

Such policies would impact members of underserved communities that Verite has pledged to cover as part of its mission

So we spoke to them.

New Orleanians who care about immigrant communities, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, cleaning up the environment and mitigating the worst of climate change spoke with us about what Trump’s victory means. This is what they’ve told us.
