A need for local news. A need for change.

With the failures and downsizing of local news media, vulnerable populations in New Orleans  and much of the region, are facing existential threats that hold back our community and prevent us from reaching our full potential.

While many larger media companies have the resources, they lack the desire or insight to act, and others are too small to have an impact to effectively give voice to these communities or to address the inequities facing underserved populations.

Verite will elevate voices from communities that have been historically dismissed or ignored to create thoughtful, solution-based coverage on crucial topics – such as education, housing, health care, criminal justice, the environment and politics – and uplift a region that has been left behind compared to similar national metropolitan areas.

Through partnerships with HBCUs and others, Verite will recruit, train, and mentor the next generation of diverse journalists.
